River Yar Circular Walk

This is a flat circular walk that starts and finishes at Off The Rails Yarmouth. The route follows the former railway line along the East side of the River Yar, before heading North, back along the West side of the River towards Yarmouth. The route can be a little muddy in places (depending on the time of year) so walking boots or wellies are recommended.

Starting at Off The Rails Yarmouth, head South (towards Freshwater) along the gravel track. You will have Rofford Marsh on the left and the Old Mill on your right.

Follow the route of the old railway line until you reach The Causeway (a stone road bridge crossing the river). Turn right over the bridge and follow the road up towards the church.

Once you reach All Saints Church take the footpath (F1 The Freshwater Way) at the corner (between the Red Lion Pub and the church). Follow the path going through two gates until you reach a tarmac road. Follow the road straight-ahead towards King’s Manor Farm.

Just before you reach the entrance to the farm yard, turn left through metal gates and bear right, following the edge of field. Go through a second metal gate into another field before heading towards a wooden gate at the edge of woodland.

Follow this path for a short way through woodland to another wooden gate. Cross over the drive leading to Kings Manor and walk straight ahead up the gravel track.

Follow the track around the bend and then downhill (F1).

At the foot of the hill, turn right through a wooden gate, go over a small footbridge in woodland and continue on path (F1).

At the next wooden gate, head left uphill towards the top corner of the field following a rough stone path along the boundary edge of the field. 

At the corner of the fields, keep heading North with the wire fence on your right until you reach more woodland.

At the end of the wire fence go through a wooden gate and follow footpath along edge of woodland keeping the field on your right and heading downhill.

At the end of the footpath go through a wooden gate and head left (Gas Works Lane, F1) following the unmade road back towards the main road.

At main road turn right onto the pavement, heading back towards Yarmouth.

Go over Yarmouth Bridge and turn right at Yarmouth Sailing Club, following the footpath alongside the river.

At the slipway follow path around the dinghy park heading towards the Old Mill and keeping the river on your right.

Once you have passed the Old Mill turn immediately left following signpost Y2 back onto the old railway line before returning to Off The Rails.
